Although the word, 'pose' has a wide application in the film and photographic industries it has an equally wide but distinct meaning in the context of a weight loss method. Yoga poses for weight loss refers to a specific section of a very ancient and deep discipline. Many sages over the centuries have contributed expert knowledge and practice to a large body of wisdom.

As people approach middle age obesity comes in the opposite direction like an oncoming train. It is difficult to stop and equally difficult to reverse. In themselves simple movements are insufficient. Heroic determination and will power are the real requirements.

In between work and family commitments the ancient art is one of many strategies that overweight people turn to. They often appreciate that it has the added advantage of combining mental and physical activity so that the discipline becomes a way of life.

This colorful type of naming seem typical when terms are translated from eastern languages into English. It is important because it gives each pose its own character. Movements should be executed in a calm, deliberate and attentive manner with the mind focused and gaze forward.

A great advantage is that minimal expensive equipment is required. A mat is about all that is needed to complement the powers of concentration, breathing and determination that are the main requirements.

Yoga poses for weight loss will be most effective if practiced regularly and with some degree of intensity. Time must be set aside as a priority and this ties in with the discipline which the practice requires if it is to be effective as a means of combating a major challenge in life.
